Vacation should be relaxing. Vacation should be an escape from the everyday. That means no work, no constant cell phone usage, no emailing everyone in sight. When I have seen or heard about Europeans taking vacation, they leave work behind. They take multiple weeks to go somewhere and recharge their batteries. They don't worry about planning out every last detail so that vacation becomes more work than actually staying home and working. I think that we Americans could learn from that.
Now, I am not saying that people shouldn't work hard. Hard work provides income, satisfaction, and hopefully adds value to and for everyone involved. But when it is time for vacation, we need to look at it as more than just a few days away from the grind. Plan out an actual vacation that leaves you feeling recharged, refreshed, and ready to go back to working hard.
