To all the veterans out there, thank you for your service.
Today is the day that we should all say thank you to the veterans. It doesn't matter how any of us feel about war, or killing, or those in charge. None of that changes the fact that men and women fight and die for our country, and for that, we should all say thank you.
To all the veterans out there, thank you for your service.

I recently watched a pretty cool indie film titled Smashed. As one might gather from the title, there is a lot of drinking involved. At the heart of it, the story is about relationships. Spoiler alert - By the end of the movie, the female lead character is celebrating a year of sobriety. Her ex-husband would like another chance, but she is not receptive. The last line has him saying that he would like a chance to redeem himself. He is talking about the croquet game they are playing, but he is also talking about his life. That line really struck me. I think that most of us, I won’t say all, are looking for a way to redeem ourselves. Redeem ourselves from what is probably as varied as people are, but I think that many of us would like a second chance at something in our lives. I would love a do-over on many things, but that’s not how life works. I also know that if I did things differently, I would be a different person in a different place now. That leaves me stuck in a conundrum. I don’t want to be in a different place or with different people, but I still would like to redeem myself for any number of things from my past. Since I don’t want to really change my past, I have to find some way to redeem myself going forward. That’s not an easy thing to say, or to face. I’m not ready, willing, or able to post a list of things here that need redeeming. But I do think a little soul-searching is in order. Care to join me? |
