If a person makes a lot of money, and he or she is looking for a tax break, that person may give a lot of money to a charitable organization. Does that sit well? Yes, the charitable organization gets funds to do good work, but the person giving the money was simply trying to lower his or her tax bill. I know that isn’t always the case, but I think it is in more instances than most of us are willing to admit.
Another example would be someone stealing from a store to feed his or her family. The store loses money. The thief did the wrong thing for a good reason. The family gets to eat.
These examples may not be stellar, but I think they get the idea across. Should we do the right thing for the right reasons? Or does that matter anymore? Do deeds or intentions carry more weight? Can we do the right things for the right reasons? Can we do that all the time? Should we be worried about it?
