If something is universal, then by definition it has to apply to all. With that thought in mind, I am sure that some of you are thinking that there are all kinds of "universal truths" out there. The only universal truth that I can think of is death. We are all going to die some day. There is no cure for aging. That would be the one item I can buy as universal. But the rest are myths.
A prime example that someone might bring up is the idea of love. But love is not a universal truth. Faulty logic on my part? No. I have an idea of love, as I'm sure everyone else does. But to say it is universal is not quite accurate. I have known people, and many of you probably have as well, that beat on or beat down their spouse. The abusers always swear that they love their partner. What's worse is that often the abused person swears that it's love. I don't know about the rest of you, but that is anything but love in my book. That alone means that love cannot be a universal truth (unless I don't count as part of the universe).
One could claim that taxes (I had death, had to include taxes) are universal. We all know that Al Capone was finally nabbed and imprisoned for tax evasion instead of the many murders he committed. That puts the kibosh on taxes being a universal truth.
Yes, we all have similar experiences. Yes, we can relate to others because we have a very close approximation of their own trials and triumphs. But is there a universal truth to be found? I say no. But here is a fun list of some "universal truths." I especially like numbers 35, 37, 39,44, 45, and 54.
