The last couple of weeks, a lot of men (and I use the term loosely when talking about them) have been in the news for doing different activities that are not highly regarded. If you follow the news, or the sport, you know what I am referring to. Several of those men are sitting at home this weekend, collecting huge paychecks. I don't agree with that, but I do understand that they have not been fired. It's no different than someone being on a paid administrative leave from a job while an investigation takes place. The continued paychecks make sense. What doesn't make sense is the poll that I saw on the news one night this week. The poll said that 85% of folks polled were not going to change their viewing habits. That left me scratching my head.
Here we have a group of men, some of whom are being accused of very bad behaviors, and 85% of the polled public doesn't care? When people behave badly, and we support that behavior, we are tacitly agreeing with that behavior. By continuing to watch the games, buy the merchandise, and spend money in direct support of the teams, people are condoning the bad behavior. Where else in our country, aside from Congress, would we tolerate such nonsense? Any regular Joe doing any regular job would find themselves shunned, fired, and out on his ear for beating on his wife or girlfriend. Why do we put up with it from these select individuals?
And for those who think that I am just expressing a case of sour grapes, all I can say is that is not the case. Those guys take a lot of punishment to earn their money. It's not a job I would do for any amount of money. I like my health more or less intact. Those guys can have the job and the pay that goes with it. What I wish is that people would quit treating those guys like they are above the law. I also wish people would quit tacitly supporting terrible behavior (so let's vote out all of Congress while we're at it).
