chance to live this one life." There are so many things that come with one chance that I couldn't possibly list them all here.
The funny thing is, I don't think most of us think about having only one chance to do most things. I think instead that most of us squander that one chance thinking that we will have all the chances we want down the road. There is an ancient quote from Heraclitus, "No man ever steps in the same river twice." Some may read that and think nothing of it. Others may read that and think that it is a "duh" statement. The river is always flowing. It is never the same. Obvious, maybe, but that same idea holds for everything else in our lives. Nothing stays constant. We change who we are, day by day, until the end of our time. That means that we only have one chance to experience every moment.
So do we take our one chance for granted? I think I do a lot of the time. I get so lost in the day to day business of living that I forget that this one day, this one chance to do whatever it is I am doing, will not come again in the same way. It will become another one chance down the road, but not the same chance. Our lives, just like the river, are always flowing onward. Each time we step into things, we do it with one chance to make that moment what we wish it could be.
