I was working on my Master's Degree in Education. As part of my program, I spent my days in the classroom. I was in a 7th grade classroom, waiting for the students to come back from gym. A colleague of mine who was in the program with me came across the hall and said that I had to turn the TV on to CNN right away. I did, and I was horrified to see the Twin Towers, one of them burning with thick, black smoke. As I watched, I asked out loud why they kept re-running the footage. It took me a moment to realize that the shot was live and the plane on the TV was flying into the second tower.
I watched in horror as the towers burned and eventually collapsed. Later in the day I had the task of telling a class full of 7th grade students that America had been attacked, that buidlings fell, and that many innocent people lost their lives. I don't think that I will ever forget that morning or the feelings that I had.
The title of this post translates to "in memory." I think that we need to keep 9/11 in our memory so that we never forget. To that end, I would like to invite you, the reader, to leave a comment about your 9/11 experience.
