There are times when we know what makes us unhappy, be it work that we don't like, a fight with a loved one, or nothing to eat for three days in a row, but how do we know when we are happy? Work can makes us feel content, but there are folks that don't work and are happy. Some people love the drama of a fight, but most of us are not happy when anger, resentment, or jealousy crowd our thinking. Food at regular intervals can keep our bellies filled, but even that most basic human need does not necessarily bring happiness.
So what does bring happiness? How would we know of we are truly happy? I don't know the answer to that, but I have an idea. If everything you own was gone, how would you feel? If you can realize that possessions do not bring happiness, then I think that is a step in the right direction. I don't think that we should have to have another person to make us happy, either. Sure, I feel better when my wife is near me, but at the end of the day, I have to find happiness (or not find it) within and for myself.
So, how do you define happiness?
