I think one of the worst that I have is that I make everything a competition. I don't tell people that I think we are in a competition, but mentally, I am competing with them. And it can be, and very often is, something stupid to compete about. I compete over knowing more about my spouse, tolerating more pain, knowing more about a topic I don't know anything about, being more self-deprecating, having better habits, or having worse habits than someone. All of the above are very stupid things to feel competitive over. But that is a habit that I have that I am trying hard to break.
I have other habits that are equally bizarre and destructive, but I don't want to get into an exhaustive list of my bad habits right here. I do have some good habits, but they are not typically things that I have to think about too much. I suspect that is the case for many of us. But I wonder how many people think about their bad habits. We have to identify them before we can work on changing them. So I challenge you to think about your habits. What is one bad habit that you can name out loud? What can you do to change or eliminate that bad habit?
