Some might say, "But I get the rewards for my credit card!" Been there, done that. We had an airline miles card that we thought would mean free airfare to exotic locales. We would have had to spend something ridiculous, tens of thousands of dollars, to get enough miles for even a small trip. Do the easy math and it's much easier to simply buy a ticket outright. That same goes for ALL of the rewards cards. They are all a ripoff. As I said, been there, done that.
We are a strictly cash household. We pay for groceries, fuel, fun, anything and everything that we can is paid for in cash. We've never had our cash hacked, skimmed, or defrauded. We spend less because we use cash. There is not really a downside. And for those who think, "If I have cash, I might get robbed!" I used to have that thought, too. Guess what? The bad people out there don't have x-ray vision. They don't know if you have cash or not. And the credit card companies definitely rip people off all the time. We're not alone in being an all-cash household, but there aren't enough of us out there yet. So use the new year to make a new start and go to all cash. You'll be glad you did.
